Wi-vun Taiffalo Chiung (a.k.a. Tưởng Vi Văn in Vietnamese, Chiúⁿ Ûi-bûn in Taiwanese, and 蔣為文 in Han characters) obtained his Ph.D degree in linguistics from the University of Texas at Arlington. He is the professor of linguistics in the Department of Taiwanese Literature at the National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan. He is also the director of Center for Vietnamese Studies at NCKU. His major research languages include Taiwanese and Vietnamese. His research fields are sociolinguistics and applied linguistics. Currently, he is interested in the relevant studies of language and orthography reforms in Hanji cultural areas, including Taiwan, Vietnam, Korea, Japan, and China.
